Personality
Kazuki is outgoing but cautious due to being teased by others in the past. He tries to keep an open mind about the world around him, often finding the good in people and things that others might overlook. He's a little awkward around pretty girls and boys, quiet around those he perceives to be potentially unpleasant, but when he's with people he trusts he opens up. Jokes, stories, anything he can think of will just pour out of his mouth when he's adequately motivated. He's naive in some respects, but very knowledgeable about electronics and the mystical nature of his world. Though he's been warned a few times, he still holds a somewhat perverse fascination with some of the elder races he's read about, most especially elves, as he's spent the most time with them. His curiosity gets him in trouble more often than he'd like to admit.


Background
In the days of old, humans were but one of many races which inhabited the Earth. Over the years, as human populations grew the older races began to fade into obscurity, passing into legend and hiding themselves away from mainstream knowledge. There they could operate quietly, in their own way, watching over mankind and helping to guide those select few who possessed special skills and powers that others might fear or envy. The elves took on that role most often, their wisdom second only to the dragons. They established a number of communities near human populations centers, hidden by magic, but accessible to those with the gift. They sent out emissaries among the humans to find those who needed guidance and encouraged them to return for training. In a smaller regard, some dragons did the same, however most tended to wait for people to find them. Many are still waiting, their whereabouts lost to the passage of time.

Kazuki is the kind of human the elves sought, possessing not only the capacity for magic, but a unique view of the world. He never fit in well in school outside his small group of friends, and there wasn't much of a social life to speak of. His studies suffered from time to time, but when he first sat down at a computer he knew he'd found something he liked. Video games, web design, he loved it all, but most especially computerized music. He started to isolate himself, staying indoors during the day when he wasn't at school, and staying up late into the night. His grades again started to decline, and the taunting started. He tried to take in all in stride but it really got to him sometimes, so he'd lose himself in the digital world of games, putting far more effort into leveling up than maintaining friendships offline.

One night after sneaking out to get something to drink, he had a chance encounter with a woman calling herself an elf. As far as he was concerned, this was another attempt to poke fun at him. Someone knew his hobbies and was using it against him. She saw no choice but to drop her illusion and let him see her for what she was. The ears, the hair, all of it was real. Needless to say, he was smitten with her. It wasn't uncommon to encounter such a reaction among some humans, but she informed him that she was there to help him, not to make his fantasies come true. The elves had rules about contact between her kind. Ultimately he opted to hear her out and went with her to meet others like himself. His life changed for the better when he joined the elves in the forest and learned to use the strange powers he'd begun to manifest. Suddenly, he felt like he belonged, meeting others and rebuilding his self confidence. In some respects, it was just like playing one of his games, complete with fantasy races and magic! It was hard at first going back into the human world, to keep up appearances that he hadn't simply vanished, but he always remembered that whenever it got too hard, he was always welcome in the forest.


Powers & Skills
Kazuki stands out from most humans of his world because he possesses magical abilities. He is unaware of the full scope of his family history which plays a significant role in this. His primary area of power is a form of healing magic that can be extended to others with concentration. This sharing of power requires physical touch, generally with the hands, and depending upon the injuries, it can take a lot out of him. An enhanced metabolism makes up for this, allowing him to recuperate energy quicker if he has something to eat. Secondary to healing is a limited form of elemental manipulation in the form of wind. When his powers were first manifesting, and in times of great emotional distress, he could have an unconscious effect upon weather in his vicinity. It is believed his power stems from fae ancestry. In addition to his magic, Kazuki has a firm understanding of how electronics work, especially computers. He's also quite good at a number of video games. He enjoys taking things apart and putting them back together. Making useful things from the parts has become a new hobby of his. He has a knack for putting words together in strange and silly ways. His latest foray into new territory has been an attempt to meld magic and technology. Fortunately, the elves are unaware he's attempting such a thing.


Kazuko
When applicable for the scenario, one result of his attempts to synchronize magic and technology was the creation of a female clone of himself. While playing a virtual reality game enhanced by magic, a spell meant to create a mirror image of his character accidentally created a new lifeform. The new sprite was a near identical copy of his real world self, right down to the powers he possessed, however it was female. While he would have been content to simply shut down the game, it turned out that she was conscious and aware, not only of what she was, but the fact she couldn't leave the game. It took some time and effort, and the help of some others, but he succeeded in exorcising the clone from the game. Once in the real world, she needed a proper name. He let her chose for herself, and thinking it was cute, she picked Kazuko. He'd always wanted a sister. Now he had one, more or less. (Kazuko has her own journal at zephyrological.) For all other intents and purposes she is his sister and their names are intentionally similar and foolishly so because their parents didn't know what they were doing.
